How Danny teaches

Simple, short and
easy to practise

After a lesson, Danny often follows up with a short drill video so you know exactly what to work on before your next session. The three videos below show how he teaches: one fault at a time, explained in plain English, with a drill you can do on the range or at home.

Three examples of the drill videos Danny records. Each one comes with a quick summary of what's covered.

Set-up fundamental 6 of 6

Body Alignment

1 min 38 · Set-up

Aim the clubface at the target, not your body.

  1. The last of Danny's six set-up fundamentals, after grip, stance, posture, ball position and clubface alignment.
  2. The clubface aims at the target. Your body does not.
  3. Your toes, hips and shoulders sit on a line parallel to the target line, which puts them slightly left of the target.
  4. The most common mistake: aiming your body at the target as well as the clubface, so everything points right.
  5. Check yourself: film your swing and make sure your hips, shoulders and toes aren't twisted open or shut.

You'll needA club and your phone to film

Fixes casting & scooping

Alignment Rod Drill

1 min 47 · Impact

Get the hands ahead at impact, instead of hanging back and flicking at the ball.

  1. A follow-up to a lesson on casting and scooping the club.
  2. Hold an alignment stick like a golf club and gently bend it forward. Feel your hands move ahead and your right hand press on top of the grip.
  3. Add the body: your left hip pocket works back and your right shoulder moves down towards the ball.
  4. The result is a strong, athletic impact position instead of hanging back.
  5. With a 6-iron, rehearse pressing the handle forward a few times, then hit some half shots and just "pluck" the ball.

You'll needAn alignment stick and a 6-iron

Fixes hiking

Lead Hand in Trail Pocket

1 min 45 · Hip movement

Stop your trail hip lifting up and away as you turn.

  1. A follow-up to a lesson on "hiking", where the trail hip rises and moves away from the ball.
  2. No club needed. Put your left hand on your right pocket (left-handers, the other way round) and rest your right hand across your shoulders to keep them square.
  3. Make a backswing turn as if you were holding a club.
  4. Watch the logo on your glove. If it moves up, you're hiking. It should stay low and move down and around as you turn.
  5. Done right, your hips stay back and you make more room between you and the club.

You'll needNothing, just a glove on your lead hand helps
